This piece was created using images inspired by photographs of tenament Dublin. One of the silhouettes is that of my aunt, Rita Beashel, when she was 4 years old, playing with friends on Blackhall Street in Dublin in 1953. The original image was captured by the photographer Nevill Johnson and is now in the RTE archives. Rita died in an accident three years later and my family have very few precious photographs of her growing up. We discovered these photographs a few years ago. I never knew Rita, but working on these pieces made me feel close to her in a way.
