An Expression of Identity through Bronze Relief.
My work is concerned with identity, expressed through a sculptural approach in the form of bas-relief that also references the aesthetic and symbolic roles portraiture and the human figure play in art history. A scheme was developed, with initial experimentation in clay and wax, the resolution being a bronze piece that provokes the desired reflection. Some prototypes were based on examples focused on depiction of the male body, motivated by my identity as a queer artist. The bronze relief exhibited here, in the form of a self-portrait, is also an ironic comment on the contemporary obsession with selfies as encountered in social media.
